"Even In The Quietest Moments!" July 21, 2009 During the past several months as I have introduced new clients to collaborative management online, I have made a few interesting observations in terms of acceptance, implementation and reactions while they cope with the downturn in the economy! 1. I have found many that companies regardless of size or industry/business sector, have been rethinking their business strategies – partly out of necessity, but also to clearly examine just how effective the efforts they are making really are. Costs analysis is certainly prudent but it seems there is a clear level of creativity in recent months – uber thinking. 2. I have spoken to many organizations from mining, to real estate development, to non-profits, to both large and small government and they all have one thing in common. This economic downturn has provided the opportunity to measure the impact that the tidal bore of technology has had in recent years. And now, in these quietest of moments, they are weighing their operations against the ever increasing mass of information created to run things. The most cost effective, most up-to-date method of keeping on top of business reaches back to simplified collaborated systems. Technology in business has been sorely based on a plethora of software packages and finding an effective means to once again integrate the departments within an organization is on the agenda. July 21, 2009 – Steve Dunn – Private Investor & Entrepreneur ( The following article is an opinion only and not meant as advice.) Not bloody likely, you say, just look at the mess Canada and the US are in. Unemployment is still rising, government stimulation programs are still in full swing…and the jury is out on how effective they really are, and businesses are still failing or, in CIT’s case, groveling for bailouts.Well that is all true. But two very important things have happened over the last few weeks. 1. Initial jobless claims in the US have spiked down 2. The ratio of Coincident to Lagging indicators in the US has turned upwards Consider the following analysis published by Dennis Gartman. "…Historically, this is how all recessions end; jobless claims "spike" down and the ratio turns upward, marking the very end, within a month or two or three of the recession’s low. Claims spiked down at the very end of the ’60’s recession; they spike down in the midst of the recession of ’70; they spiked down to end the deep and lasting recession of ’72-’74; they spike materially down in the middle of the recession of ’81-’82; the spiked down to end the recession of ’90-’91 and they tended to fall…for perhaps a "spike" is not the proper term for what they did then… to end the recession of ’01." "Foster First Solutions implementation of EPM Live has already proven to be a valuable tool for consolidating our systems. As a small consulting company that has struggled with how to leverage technology across our sites, EPM Live looks like it will be our best fit to dovetail with our Microsoft applications such as Outlook. We also had Foster First Solutions build custom forms for invoicing and expenses that have allowed us to move away from a clunky combination of MS Access, MS Excel and a web-based application. We also have some customer relationship functions that allow us to keep track of our prospects and client. As we grow with our EPM Live site, we look forward to discovering the advantages of some of the built-in features such as project and task planning."- Rob Fontaine – ErgoRisk Management
